Launching Hone Poker

My Welcome post presents one version of why Hone Poker exists. But, there’s another.

Hone Poker exists because I wanted it. I built Hone Poker because I wanted to become a better player.

I am not a seasoned poker player. I am my ICP (Ideal Customer Profile). I am a new/casual player who wants to be a good player. Good enough to play in casinos and tournaments and have a solid chance to win and walk away with more money than I went in with.

Two years ago I started playing poker for the first time. Just home games with a few friends and low stakes for fun and camaraderie. The stakes made it interesting and mildly competitive.

Those games ended and I stopped playing until about a month ago when I joined another low stakes local game.

But, if I am going to do something, I want to be good at it. So I did what I always do. I started studying how to play to become a better player.

Then I started searching for free poker training apps. That’s when I decided to build one … and then I did.

Building Hone Poker has been

• my first consumer application
• a chance to apply many concepts I have learned and engaged with to a real product
• a learning experience

A lot goes into building a product (and starting a business). And there is always more to do.

At some point you just have just decide to ship it. That day is today.
